Draft Cover, Double Page Spread & Contents Pages

I think that this is a good start to my cover. I have received some feedback form one of my teachers, he brought up the point that the Awe font blends into the background at the top, this is the same for the additional text on the left hand side, and the artist's name. I think that I need to make the title stand out much more, as the title may encourage people to buy the magazine.

I was told by one of my peers that they like the picture featured on this page because the model looks very natural and not posed, it fits with the genre of the magazine. Also the layout received some positive comments, and it fits the page very well. One criticism I received was that the sky looks very grey, and i could use Photoshop to enhance the colour to a better looking blue. Also I will need to add extra pictures on this page to show what else is inside the magazine.

I think that I need to include a photo of my artist with a guitar, because it is not very clear that she is a musician. I also think that i could add some text over the top left hand side of the corner to fill the gap.

  1. I really like your first draft, Ellie! The front cover is very minimalistic and simply done, which I think works well and gives off the vibe that you were going for. I like the choice of fonts used and the natural look of the picture, although some of the text could be positioned differently and made slightly smaller. I like the layout of the contents page and the picture used, and I agree with the alterations you think you should make. I like the green/white colour scheme used without which gives the magazine a 'fresh' look about it. The clothes the model is wearing add a bit of extra colour although they are subtle and keep in with your theme nicely. The double page spread is good in terms of layout and the positioning of the text, but I agree that the picture should maybe include a guitar. :)

  2. The pose of the model on the cover looks really professional and reflects the accoustic folk genre that you have gone for really well. I think that the magazine name 'AWE' and the font style looks good and attention grabbing and using white font makes it look softer on the page but still attention grabbing. I like the layout of the contents and having the model in the corner looks good. Keeping to the same style throughout makes the whole project more professional too. Her costumes and poses vary which is good. I like the artist name font becaus it looks really interesting and keeping it the same on all the pages makes her seem more of a feature artist which is good. If I was to change one thing I would make the other artist names on the cover a bit smaller to make 'ELEANOR' seem bigger and maybe have her looking at the camera. Overall I think this is really good!

  3. I love main image that you've used for the contents page, it works really well and fits the style of your genre perfectly, as do all of the images that you have used. However, I do agree with Laura and reccomed that you should include a prop such as a guitar for the model to use so that it adds an element of music to the images. Your images also look professional and of high quality. The title of your magazine reflects the 'folk' genre your trying to achieve and the contrasting fonts around it complient the masthead really well. I like the boxes faintly used for the background of the quotations on your double page spread and I also like how you have incorporated the artists name into the main image on the double page spread as it looks simple yet bold.

  4. I really like the style of the magazine; the images are great and work really well with the fonts you have chosen. The one thing i think doesn’t fit in very well is the font for your title "AWE" maybe it needs to be more bold and simple than bold and creative so it fits in with the rest of the magazine. The contents page looks really good and i like the layout of the different pages and how you have used the image instead of words for page'54'. I also like the layout of the double page spread and the differences in text size. The images you have chosen resemble your genre really well and so does the magazine. :)
